In short
Put a sample beside your cabinet door and flooring. Then ask to see a full-slab image before you decide how a pattern will run across the kitchen.
A consistent starting point
Quartz surfaces are manufactured, giving you a broad choice of colours and repeatable design families. That makes them worth considering when you want to coordinate an island, worktop runs and an upstand. A sample helps with colour; it cannot show an entire slab’s movement.
Start your shortlist with the room itself. Take a photograph in daylight and another with your kitchen lights on. Note whether you want the worktop to stand out or sit quietly beside the cabinets. Compare a fine pattern with a larger vein at the scale you will actually see.
Look closely at the working details
Ask for the proposed joint positions on your layout. Check how a vein changes direction at a corner, how the edge will be finished and whether the appearance continues through the thickness. Product photos can make these details difficult to judge.
A large island deserves a separate conversation about slab dimensions, access and support. A matching splashback also needs its own measurements and cut-out plan. Neither should be treated as a free addition to a worktop run.
Care should suit your routine
Silestone’s care guidance recommends protection from hot cookware and advises against applying sealers. Always follow the instructions for the actual brand and surface you choose; do not assume every product marketed as quartz has the same composition or care requirements.
Before ordering, ask which cleaner is approved and how to deal with an accidental spill. Keep those instructions with the quotation. Our worktop care guide explains the questions to ask across all four material families.
What to include in a quartz enquiry
- The product name or a description of the colour and pattern you prefer.
- A rough plan of the runs and island, clearly marked as approximate.
- Sink and hob model details if chosen, plus any drainer grooves.
- Whether existing surfaces, tiles or upstands need removing.
If the product is still undecided, say so. The cost guide explains why two quartz quotations can differ even when the floor plan is identical.
