What goes into a stone worktop quote?

A useful worktop price describes the complete job. For a St Albans kitchen, compare the selected material, fabrication, access and installation on the same basis before looking at the final total.

In short

A price per square metre is not enough to compare bespoke worktops. Ask for an itemised quotation against the same plan and product specification.

Material and slab use

Record the manufacturer or stone name, colour, finish and thickness. Then ask how much material the proposed layout needs. A small visible worktop area does not necessarily mean only a small part of a slab will be charged.

Large islands, matching veins and waterfall ends can change the number and arrangement of slabs required. Ask whether a different joint position or layout would alter the proposal. Assess the visual trade-off before deciding.

The work done to the stone

List every sink, hob and tap opening, plus drainer grooves and exposed edges. An undermounted sink and a simple inset sink can require different finishing work. Curves, mitred edges and thick-looking built-up sections should be specified separately.

Use the same drawing for each quotation. Our thickness and edges guide helps you describe details that a basic room measurement may miss.

The work done in your home

  • Templating and any additional measuring visits.
  • Delivery, handling, fitting and joint finishing.
  • Removal and disposal of existing worktops.
  • Sink and appliance disconnection and reconnection.
  • Cabinet preparation, supports and making good.
  • Any access-related equipment or parking arrangements.

Confirm which items are included, which are excluded and which depend on a site assessment. Ask for VAT treatment and the quotation’s validity period to be stated clearly.

Compare quotations line by line

Put the quotes beside the same plan and mark differences before negotiating. If one excludes removal or reconnections, its lower total may not represent a lower cost for the completed project.

Ask who is responsible for the material, fabrication and workmanship, how changes are approved and what payment stages apply. Keep the agreed specification and changes in writing. Do not assume a manufacturer warranty covers every aspect of installation.

Why there is no headline price here

We do not have a confirmed provider price list for this site. Publishing a low “from” figure without its inclusions would not help you budget. The practical next step is a quote based on your kitchen and the surface you select.

Prepare your project brief with approximate dimensions, your postcode and the stage of the work. If you have not chosen a material, use the comparison guide first.

Common questions

Does a smaller kitchen always cost less?

Not necessarily. Slab use, cut-outs, finishing, removal and access all affect the complete proposal.

Should I budget separately for reconnections?

Ask explicitly. The worktop quote may not include the trades required to reconnect plumbing, electrical or gas appliances.
